Time for some more familiar faces - and more Verdi. Taking a break from Traviata today, here is Mark Rucker (OSB's 2010 Macbeth) as Iago and tenor Eduardo Villa as the title character in Verdi's Otello. The video is a bit grainy, but just listen to the great singing. Eduardo (Metropolitan Opera tenor, and a graduate of both Dos Pueblos High and SB City College) came out today to attend the first of our Studio Artist Lunchtime Concerts at the Granada - (Don't miss the rest - the next 3 Wednesdays at noon at the Granada.)
Today's clips-of-the-day are both concert versions of Traviata but watch how these all-star casts bring out all the drama! Enjoy this great singing. (Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Alagna, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the Act 2 finale, then Renee Fleming and Hvorostovsky in the second act duet.) As Séance on a Wet Afternoon goes into production mode at New York City Opera, I thought I'd post some shots of our favorite diva - The incomparable Lauren Flanigan (Myra in the Séance world premiere in SB) paired with two of OSB's leading men,...
Back to everyone's favorite scene - I love a good "Amami Alfredo" to start the weekend...
More opera on film around town in the next week or so! I'm so happy these films are introducing opera to new audiences and hope people will take the next step of experiencing live Opera - there is nothing like hearing that wonderful music...
Today's clip is Maria Callas and Alfredo Kraus in a 1958 production from Portugal - the performance that moved Terrance McNally to write his 1989 play "The Lisbon Traviata." You can see why. ...
Three versions of Germont's aria "Di provenza." Starting with the great Renato Bruson in Zeffirelli's Busetto production. (heard here at nearly age 70!) The second is Leo Nucci (with Frank Lopardo) from London, the third is Dmitri Hvorostovsky from Cagliari - the video is...
I came across this picture of Caroline (who created the role of Miss Rose for us in Séance last fall) and had to share! From Boston Lyric Opera's 2010 Idomeneo, she's singing crazy-with-a-vengeance Elettra - Go get 'em, Caroline! ...
It's tenor time! Today's Traviata clips are two of the new generation of tenors, and their take on Alfredo's aria. Love them both for different reasons - Polish tenor Piotr Beczala has such a beautiful and even sound - really gorgeous throughout the...
